About the event

We are pleased to welcome Dianne as our first speaker:

Dianne Meili is Cree and Haudenosaunee (Mohawk) from the Lac Ste. Anne area of Alberta, and a member of the Michel Callihoo First Nation. From an early age she wrote stories and continued to do so as a journalist, then editor, of Windspeaker, an Indigenous weekly newspaper.

In 1992, her book "Those Who Know" based on interviews with Alberta Elders and wisdom keepers was published. Dianne learns from, and treasures, her Elders as teachers to this day. As a landmark edition, the book was republished in 2012.

She continues to write, with four children's books to her credit, and owns an award-winning Indigenous Publishing Company called Eschia Books.

Dianne is the founder and president of the Skydancer Indigenous Cultural Society which operates a cultural centre and art gallery in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Indigenous culture and ways of knowing are shared…
